Psalm 144
International Standard VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for battle and my fingers for warfare,1A Psalm of David. Blessed be the LORD, my rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle;
he is my gracious love and my fortress, my strong tower and my deliverer, my shield and the one in whom I find refuge, who subdues peoples under me.2My lovingkindness and my fortress, My stronghold and my deliverer, My shield and He in whom I take refuge, Who subdues my people under me.
LORD, what are human beings, that you should care about them, or mortal man, that you should think about him?3O LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You think of him?
The human person is a mere empty breath; his days are like a fading shadow.4Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow.
Bow your heavens, LORD, and descend; touch the mountains, and they will smolder.5Bow Your heavens, O LORD, and come down; Touch the mountains, that they may smoke.
Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy, shoot your arrows and confuse them.6Flash forth lightning and scatter them; Send out Your arrows and confuse them.
Reach down your hand from your high place; rescue me and deliver me from mighty waters, from the control of foreigners. 7Stretch forth Your hand from on high; Rescue me and deliver me out of great waters, Out of the hand of aliens
Their mouths speak lies, and their right hand deceives, 8Whose mouths speak deceit, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
God, I will sing a new song to you. On a harp of ten strings I will play to you—9I will sing a new song to You, O God; Upon a harp of ten strings I will sing praises to You,
to you who gives victory to kings, rescuing his servant David from cruel swords.10Who gives salvation to kings, Who rescues David His servant from the evil sword.
Rescue me and deliver me from the control of foreigners, whose mouths speak lies, and whose right hand deceives. 11Rescue me and deliver me out of the hand of aliens, Whose mouth speaks deceit And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
May our sons in their youth be like full-grown plants, and our daughters like pillars destined to decorate a palace.12Let our sons in their youth be as grown-up plants, And our daughters as corner pillars fashioned as for a palace;
May our granaries be filled, storing produce in abundance; may our sheep bring forth thousands, even tens of thousands in our fields.13Let our garners be full, furnishing every kind of produce, And our flocks bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields;
May our cattle grow heavy with young, with no damage or loss. May there be no cry of anguish in our streets!14Let our cattle bear Without mishap and without loss, Let there be no outcry in our streets!
Happy are the people to whom these things come; happy are the people whose God is the LORD.15How blessed are the people who are so situated; How blessed are the people whose God is the LORD!
