Psalm 144
International Standard VersionNET Bible
Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for battle and my fingers for warfare,1By David. The LORD, my protector, deserves praise--the one who trains my hands for battle, and my fingers for war,
he is my gracious love and my fortress, my strong tower and my deliverer, my shield and the one in whom I find refuge, who subdues peoples under me.2who loves me and is my stronghold, my refuge and my deliverer, my shield and the one in whom I take shelter, who makes nations submit to me.
LORD, what are human beings, that you should care about them, or mortal man, that you should think about him?3O LORD, of what importance is the human race, that you should notice them? Of what importance is mankind, that you should be concerned about them?
The human person is a mere empty breath; his days are like a fading shadow.4People are like a vapor, their days like a shadow that disappears.
Bow your heavens, LORD, and descend; touch the mountains, and they will smolder.5O LORD, make the sky sink and come down! Touch the mountains and make them smolder!
Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy, shoot your arrows and confuse them.6Hurl lightning bolts and scatter them! Shoot your arrows and rout them!
Reach down your hand from your high place; rescue me and deliver me from mighty waters, from the control of foreigners. 7Reach down from above! Grab me and rescue me from the surging water, from the power of foreigners,
Their mouths speak lies, and their right hand deceives, 8who speak lies, and make false promises.
God, I will sing a new song to you. On a harp of ten strings I will play to you—9O God, I will sing a new song to you! Accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, I will sing praises to you,
to you who gives victory to kings, rescuing his servant David from cruel swords.10the one who delivers kings, and rescued David his servant from a deadly sword.
Rescue me and deliver me from the control of foreigners, whose mouths speak lies, and whose right hand deceives. 11Grab me and rescue me from the power of foreigners, who speak lies, and make false promises.
May our sons in their youth be like full-grown plants, and our daughters like pillars destined to decorate a palace.12Then our sons will be like plants, that quickly grow to full size. Our daughters will be like corner pillars, carved like those in a palace.
May our granaries be filled, storing produce in abundance; may our sheep bring forth thousands, even tens of thousands in our fields.13Our storehouses will be full, providing all kinds of food. Our sheep will multiply by the thousands and fill our pastures.
May our cattle grow heavy with young, with no damage or loss. May there be no cry of anguish in our streets!14Our cattle will be weighted down with produce. No one will break through our walls, no one will be taken captive, and there will be no terrified cries in our city squares.
Happy are the people to whom these things come; happy are the people whose God is the LORD.15How blessed are the people who experience these things! How blessed are the people whose God is the LORD!
