International Standard VersionNew International Version
Therefore, if you have been raised with the Messiah, keep focusing on the things that are above, where the Messiah is seated at the right hand of God. 1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Keep your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on the earth. 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
For you have died, and your life has been safely guarded by the Messiah in God. 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
When the Messiah, who is your life, is revealed, then you, too, will be revealed with him in glory.4When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
So put to death your worldly impulses: sexual sin, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). 5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
It is because of these things that the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient.6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.
You used to behave like them as you lived among them. 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.
But now you must also get rid of anger, wrath, malice, slander, obscene speech, and all such sins. 8But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
Do not lie to one another, for you have stripped off the old nature with its practices 9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices
and have clothed yourselves with the new nature, which is being renewed in full knowledge, consistent with the image of the one who created it. 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
In him there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free person. Instead, the Messiah is all and in all.11Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
Therefore, as God's chosen ones, holy and loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. 12Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Be tolerant of one another and forgive each other if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, you also should forgive.13Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which ties everything together in unity. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Let the peace of the Messiah also rule in your hearts, to which you were called in one body, and be thankful. 15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Let the word of the Messiah inhabit you richly with wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, and singing to God with thankfulness in your hearts. 16Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.
And whatever you do, whether by speech or action, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is appropriate for those who belong to the Lord. 18Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.19Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord. 20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
Fathers, do not make your children resentful. Otherwise, they'll become discouraged.21Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only while being watched in order to please them, but with a sincere heart, fearing the Lord. 22Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.
Whatever you do, work at it wholeheartedly as though you were doing it for the Lord and not merely for people. 23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
You know that it is from the Lord that you will receive the inheritance as a reward. It is the Lord Messiah whom you are serving! 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
For the person who does what is wrong will be paid back for what he has done without favoritism.25Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.
