Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; | 1Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, set your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. |
Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. | 2He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. |
For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. | 3For Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. |
For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. | 4And every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. |
And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; | 5Now Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be spoken later. |
But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. | 6But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope of which we boast. |
Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, | 7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear His voice, |
Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: | 8do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness, |
When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. | 9where your fathers tested and tried Me, and for forty years saw My works. |
Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. | 10Therefore I was angry with that generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known My ways.’ |
So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.) | 11So I swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’ ” |
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. | 12See to it, brothers, that none of you has a wicked heart of unbelief that turns away from the living God. |
But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. | 13But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. |
For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; | 14We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first. |
While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. | 15As it has been said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion.” |
For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. | 16For who were the ones who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? |
But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? | 17And with whom was God angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? |
And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? | 18And to whom did He swear that they would never enter His rest? Was it not to those who disobeyed? |
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. | 19So we see that it was because of their unbelief that they were unable to enter. |
