Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;1Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession.
Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.2He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was in all God's household.
For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.3For Jesus is considered worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder has more honor than the house.
For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.4Now every house is built by someone, but the one who built everything is God.
And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;5Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's household, as a testimony to what would be said in the future.
But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.6But Christ was faithful as a Son over his household. And we are that household if we hold on to our confidence and the hope in which we boast.
Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear his voice,
Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:8do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,
When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.9where your fathers tested me, tried me, and saw my works
Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.10for forty years. Therefore I was provoked to anger with that generation and said, "They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known my ways."
So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)11So I swore in my anger, "They will not enter my rest."
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.12Watch out, brothers and sisters, so that there won't be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.13But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin's deception.
For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;14For we have become participants in Christ if we hold firmly until the end the reality that we had at the start.
While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.15As it is said: Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.
For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.16For who heard and rebelled? Wasn't it all who came out of Egypt under Moses?
But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?17With whom was God angry for forty years? Wasn't it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?18And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, if not to those who disobeyed?
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.19So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
