In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. | 1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. |
And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. | 2Suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, rolled away the stone, and sat on it. |
His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: | 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. |
And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. | 4The guards trembled in fear of him and became like dead men. |
And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. | 5But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. |
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. | 6He is not here; He has risen, just as He said! Come, see the place where He lay. |
And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. | 7Then go quickly and tell His disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him.’ See, I have told you.” |
And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. | 8So they hurried away from the tomb in fear and great joy, and ran to tell His disciples. |
And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. | 9Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” They came to Him, grasped His feet, and worshiped Him. |
Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me. | 10“Do not be afraid,” said Jesus. “Go and tell My brothers to go to Galilee. There they will see Me.” |
Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done. | 11While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened. |
And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers, | 12And after the chief priests had met with the elders and formed a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money |
Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. | 13and instructed them: “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.’ |
And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. | 14If this report reaches the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” |
So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day. | 15So the guards took the money and did as they were instructed. And this account has been circulated among the Jews to this very day. |
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. | 16Meanwhile, the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain Jesus had designated. |
And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. | 17When they saw Him, they worshiped Him, but some doubted. |
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. | 18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. |
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: | 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, |
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. | 20and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” |
