In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. | 1Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. |
And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. | 2And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. |
His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: | 3And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. |
And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. | 4The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men. |
And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. | 5The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. |
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. | 6"He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. |
And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. | 7"Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you." |
And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. | 8And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples. |
And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. | 9And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him. |
Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me. | 10Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me." |
Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done. | 11Now while they were on their way, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened. |
And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers, | 12And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, |
Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. | 13and said, "You are to say, 'His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.' |
And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. | 14"And if this should come to the governor's ears, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble." |
So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day. | 15And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this day. |
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. | 16But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. |
And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. | 17When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. |
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. | 18And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. |
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: | 19"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, |
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. | 20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." |
