| 3As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, | 3As I urged you when I went to Macedonia, remain in Ephesus so that you may instruct certain people not to teach different doctrine |
| 4Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. | 4or to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies. These promote empty speculations rather than God's plan, which operates by faith. |
| 5Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: | 5Now the goal of our instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith. |
| 6From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; | 6Some have deviated from these and turned aside to fruitless discussion. |

| 11According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. | 11based on the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was entrusted to me. |

| 16Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. | 16But I received mercy for this reason, so that in me, the worst of them, Christ Jesus might demonstrate His extraordinary patience as an example to those who would believe in Him for eternal life. |
