This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.1But know this: Difficult times will come in the last days.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,2For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,3unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good,
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;4traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.5holding to the form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid these people!
For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,6For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions,
Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.7always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.
Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.8Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind, worthless in regard to the faith.
But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.9But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs was also.
But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,10But you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, and endurance,
Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.11along with the persecutions and sufferings that came to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from them all.
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.12In fact, all those who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.13Evil people and impostors will become worse, deceiving and being deceived.
But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed. You know those who taught you,
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.15and you know that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:16All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness,
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.17so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
