This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.1But understand this, that in the last days difficult times will come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,2For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,3unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, savage, opposed to what is good,
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;4treacherous, reckless, conceited, loving pleasure rather than loving God.
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.5They will maintain the outward appearance of religion but will have repudiated its power. So avoid people like these.
For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,6For some of these insinuate themselves into households and captivate weak women who are overwhelmed with sins and led along by various passions.
Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.7Such women are always seeking instruction, yet never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.
Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.8And just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these people--who have warped minds and are disqualified in the faith--also oppose the truth.
But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.9But they will not go much further, for their foolishness will be obvious to everyone, just like it was with Jannes and Jambres.
But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,10You, however, have followed my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love, my endurance,
Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.11as well as the persecutions and sufferings that happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, and in Lystra. I endured these persecutions and the Lord delivered me from them all.
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.12Now in fact all who want to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.13But evil people and charlatans will go from bad to worse, deceiving others and being deceived themselves.
But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;14You, however, must continue in the things you have learned and are confident about. You know who taught you
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.15and how from infancy you have known the holy writings, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:16Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.17that the person dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for every good work.
