Maschil of David; A Prayer when he was in the cave. I cried unto the LORD with my voice; with my voice unto the LORD did I make my supplication. | 1A Davidic Maskil. When he was in the cave. A prayer. I cry aloud to the LORD; I plead aloud to the LORD for mercy. |
I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble. | 2I pour out my complaint before Him; I reveal my trouble to Him. |
When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me. | 3Although my spirit is weak within me, You know my way. Along this path I travel they have hidden a trap for me. |
I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. | 4Look to the right and see: no one stands up for me; there is no refuge for me; no one cares about me. |
I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. | 5I cry to You, LORD; I say, "You are my shelter, my portion in the land of the living." |
Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. | 6Listen to my cry, for I am very weak. Rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me. |
Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me. | 7Free me from prison so that I can praise Your name. The righteous will gather around me because You deal generously with me. |
