Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, | 1Then the LORD said to Job, |
Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it. | 2"Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who reproves God answer it." |
Then Job answered the LORD, and said, | 3Then Job answered the LORD and said, |
Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. | 4"Behold, I am insignificant; what can I reply to You? I lay my hand on my mouth. |
Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further. | 5"Once I have spoken, and I will not answer; Even twice, and I will add nothing more." |
Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said, | 6Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm and said, |
Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. | 7"Now gird up your loins like a man; I will ask you, and you instruct Me. |
Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? | 8"Will you really annul My judgment? Will you condemn Me that you may be justified? |
Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him? | 9"Or do you have an arm like God, And can you thunder with a voice like His? |
Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty. | 10"Adorn yourself with eminence and dignity, And clothe yourself with honor and majesty. |
Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him. | 11"Pour out the overflowings of your anger, And look on everyone who is proud, and make him low. |
Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. | 12"Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him, And tread down the wicked where they stand. |
Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret. | 13"Hide them in the dust together; Bind them in the hidden place. |
Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee. | 14"Then I will also confess to you, That your own right hand can save you. |
Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. | 15"Behold now, Behemoth, which I made as well as you; He eats grass like an ox. |
Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. | 16"Behold now, his strength in his loins And his power in the muscles of his belly. |
He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. | 17"He bends his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are knit together. |
His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. | 18"His bones are tubes of bronze; His limbs are like bars of iron. |
He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. | 19"He is the first of the ways of God; Let his maker bring near his sword. |
Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. | 20"Surely the mountains bring him food, And all the beasts of the field play there. |
He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. | 21"Under the lotus plants he lies down, In the covert of the reeds and the marsh. |
The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. | 22"The lotus plants cover him with shade; The willows of the brook surround him. |
Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. | 23"If a river rages, he is not alarmed; He is confident, though the Jordan rushes to his mouth. |
He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares. | 24"Can anyone capture him when he is on watch, With barbs can anyone pierce his nose? |
