To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. | 1For the music director; a psalm of David. How blessed is the one who treats the poor properly! When trouble comes, the LORD delivers him. |
The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. | 2May the LORD protect him and save his life! May he be blessed in the land! Do not turn him over to his enemies! |
The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness. | 3The LORD supports him on his sickbed; you completely heal him from his illness. |
I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee. | 4As for me, I said: "O LORD, have mercy on me! Heal me, for I have sinned against you! |
Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish? | 5My enemies ask this cruel question about me, 'When will he finally die and be forgotten?' |
And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it. | 6When someone comes to visit, he pretends to be friendly; he thinks of ways to defame me, and when he leaves he slanders me. |
All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt. | 7All who hate me whisper insults about me to one another; they plan ways to harm me. |
An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more. | 8They say, 'An awful disease overwhelms him, and now that he is bed-ridden he will never recover.' |
Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. | 9Even my close friend whom I trusted, he who shared meals with me, has turned against me. |
But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them. | 10As for you, O LORD, have mercy on me and raise me up, so I can pay them back!" |
By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me. | 11By this I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. |
And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever. | 12As for me, you uphold me because of my integrity; you allow me permanent access to your presence. |
Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen. | 13The LORD God of Israel deserves praise in the future and forevermore! We agree! We agree! |
