King James Bible | New Living Translation |
A Psalm of David. Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight: | 1Praise the LORD, who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle. |
My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me. | 2He is my loving ally and my fortress, my tower of safety, my rescuer. He is my shield, and I take refuge in him. He makes the nations submit to me. |
LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him! | 3O LORD, what are human beings that you should notice them, mere mortals that you should think about them? |
Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away. | 4For they are like a breath of air; their days are like a passing shadow. |
Bow thy heavens, O LORD, and come down: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke. | 5Open the heavens, LORD, and come down. Touch the mountains so they billow smoke. |
Cast forth lightning, and scatter them: shoot out thine arrows, and destroy them. | 6Hurl your lightning bolts and scatter your enemies! Shoot your arrows and confuse them! |
Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of strange children; | 7Reach down from heaven and rescue me; rescue me from deep waters, from the power of my enemies. |
Whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood. | 8Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie instead. |
I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee. | 9I will sing a new song to you, O God! I will sing your praises with a ten-stringed harp. |
It is he that giveth salvation unto kings: who delivereth David his servant from the hurtful sword. | 10For you grant victory to kings! You rescued your servant David from the fatal sword. |
Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood: | 11Save me! Rescue me from the power of my enemies. Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie instead. |
That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace: | 12May our sons flourish in their youth like well-nurtured plants. May our daughters be like graceful pillars, carved to beautify a palace. |
That our garners may be full, affording all manner of store: that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets: | 13May our barns be filled with crops of every kind. May the flocks in our fields multiply by the thousands, even tens of thousands, |
That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets. | 14and may our oxen be loaded down with produce. May there be no enemy breaking through our walls, no going into captivity, no cries of alarm in our town squares. |
Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD. | 15Yes, joyful are those who live like this! Joyful indeed are those whose God is the LORD. |
