King James Bible | New Living Translation |
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy. | 1O God, listen to my complaint. Protect my life from my enemies’ threats. |
Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity: | 2Hide me from the plots of this evil mob, from this gang of wrongdoers. |
Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words: | 3They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows. |
That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. | 4They shoot from ambush at the innocent, attacking suddenly and fearlessly. |
They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them? | 5They encourage each other to do evil and plan how to set their traps in secret. “Who will ever notice?” they ask. |
They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep. | 6As they plot their crimes, they say, “We have devised the perfect plan!” Yes, the human heart and mind are cunning. |
But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded. | 7But God himself will shoot them with his arrows, suddenly striking them down. |
So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away. | 8Their own tongues will ruin them, and all who see them will shake their heads in scorn. |
And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing. | 9Then everyone will be afraid; they will proclaim the mighty acts of God and realize all the amazing things he does. |
The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory. | 10The godly will rejoice in the LORD and find shelter in him. And those who do what is right will praise him. |
