Psalm 72
King James BibleNew Living Translation
A Psalm for Solomon. Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king's son.1Give your love of justice to the king, O God, and righteousness to the king’s son.
He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment.2Help him judge your people in the right way; let the poor always be treated fairly.
The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.3May the mountains yield prosperity for all, and may the hills be fruitful.
He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.4Help him to defend the poor, to rescue the children of the needy, and to crush their oppressors.
They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.5May they fear you as long as the sun shines, as long as the moon remains in the sky. Yes, forever!
He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.6May the king’s rule be refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut grass, like the showers that water the earth.
In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.7May all the godly flourish during his reign. May there be abundant prosperity until the moon is no more.
He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.8May he reign from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.
They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.9Desert nomads will bow before him; his enemies will fall before him in the dust.
The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.10The western kings of Tarshish and other distant lands will bring him tribute. The eastern kings of Sheba and Seba will bring him gifts.
Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.11All kings will bow before him, and all nations will serve him.
For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.12He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them.
He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.13He feels pity for the weak and the needy, and he will rescue them.
He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.14He will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious to him.
And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; and daily shall he be praised.15Long live the king! May the gold of Sheba be given to him. May the people always pray for him and bless him all day long.
There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.16May there be abundant grain throughout the land, flourishing even on the hilltops. May the fruit trees flourish like the trees of Lebanon, and may the people thrive like grass in a field.
His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.17May the king’s name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun shines. May all nations be blessed through him and bring him praise.
Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.18Praise the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does such wonderful things.
And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.19Praise his glorious name forever! Let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and amen!
The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.20(This ends the prayers of David son of Jesse.)
