Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace.1Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you.
We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers;2We always thank God for all of you, remembering you in our prayers
constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father,3and continually recalling before our God and Father your work of faith, your labor of love, and your enduring hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
knowing, brethren beloved by God, His choice of you;4Brothers who are beloved by God, we know that He has chosen you,
for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.5because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power, in the Holy Spirit, and with great conviction—just as you know we lived among you for your sake.
You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much tribulation with the joy of the Holy Spirit,6And you became imitators of us and of the Lord when you welcomed the message with the joy of the Holy Spirit, in spite of your great suffering.
so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.7As a result, you have become an example to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.
For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone forth, so that we have no need to say anything.8For not only did the message of the Lord ring out from you to Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone out to every place, so that we have no need to say anything more.
For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God,9For they themselves report what kind of welcome you gave us, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God
and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come.10and to await His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead—Jesus our deliverer from the coming wrath.
