New American Standard Bible 1995New International Version
Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace.1Paul, Silas and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you.
We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers;2We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers.
constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father,3We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
knowing, brethren beloved by God, His choice of you;4For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you,
for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.5because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.
You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much tribulation with the joy of the Holy Spirit,6You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.
so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.7And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.
For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone forth, so that we have no need to say anything.8The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia--your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it,
For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God,9for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,
and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come.10and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead--Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
