But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine.1But as for you, speak the things that are consistent with sound doctrine.
Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.2Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, and sound in faith, love, and perseverance.
Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,3Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers or addicted to much wine, but teachers of good.
so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,4In this way they can train the young women to love their husbands and children,
to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.5to be self-controlled, pure, managers of their households, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be discredited.
Likewise urge the young men to be sensible;6In the same way, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.
in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified,7In everything, show yourself to be an example by doing good works. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,
sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.8and wholesome speech that is above reproach, so that anyone who opposes us will be ashamed to have nothing bad to say about us.
Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,9Slaves are to submit to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.10not stealing from them, but showing all good faith, so that in every respect they will adorn the teaching about God our Savior.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to everyone.
instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,12It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,13as we await the blessed hope and glorious appearance of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.14He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.15Speak these things as you encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
