But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine.1But you must say the things that are consistent with sound teaching.
Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.2Older men are to be level headed, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance.
Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,3In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to much wine. They are to teach what is good,
so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,4so they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children,
to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.5to be self-controlled, pure, homemakers, kind, and submissive to their husbands, so that God's message will not be slandered.
Likewise urge the young men to be sensible;6In the same way, encourage the young men to be self-controlled
in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified,7in everything. Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity in your teaching.
sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.8Your message is to be sound beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be ashamed, having nothing bad to say about us.
Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,9Slaves are to be submissive to their masters in everything, and to be well-pleasing, not talking back
not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.10or stealing, but demonstrating utter faithfulness, so that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior in everything.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,11For the grace of God has appeared with salvation for all people,
instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,12instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age,
looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,13while we wait for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.14He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for Himself a people for His own possession, eager to do good works.
These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.15Say these things, and encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
