New American Standard Bible 1995New Living Translation
But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine.1As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching.
Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.2Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience.
Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,3Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good.
so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,4These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children,
to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.5to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.
Likewise urge the young men to be sensible;6In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely.
in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified,7And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.
sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.8Teach the truth so that your teaching can’t be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us.
Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,9Slaves must always obey their masters and do their best to please them. They must not talk back
not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.10or steal, but must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good. Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,11For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people.
instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,12And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God,
looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,13while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed.
who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.14He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.
These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.15You must teach these things and encourage the believers to do them. You have the authority to correct them when necessary, so don’t let anyone disregard what you say.
