NASB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995English Standard Version
Then Job continued his discourse and said,1And Job again took up his discourse, and said:
"As God lives, who has taken away my right, And the Almighty, who has embittered my soul,2“As God lives, who has taken away my right, and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,
For as long as life is in me, And the breath of God is in my nostrils,3as long as my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils,
My lips certainly will not speak unjustly, Nor will my tongue mutter deceit.4my lips will not speak falsehood, and my tongue will not utter deceit.
"Far be it from me that I should declare you right; Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.5Far be it from me to say that you are right; till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.
"I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go. My heart does not reproach any of my days.6I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go; my heart does not reproach me for any of my days.
"May my enemy be as the wicked And my opponent as the unjust.7“Let my enemy be as the wicked, and let him who rises up against me be as the unrighteous.
"For what is the hope of the godless when he is cut off, When God requires his life?8For what is the hope of the godless when God cuts him off, when God takes away his life?
"Will God hear his cry When distress comes upon him?9Will God hear his cry when distress comes upon him?
"Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?10Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times?
"I will instruct you in the power of God; What is with the Almighty I will not conceal.11I will teach you concerning the hand of God; what is with the Almighty I will not conceal.
"Behold, all of you have seen it; Why then do you act foolishly?12Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain?
"This is the portion of a wicked man from God, And the inheritance which tyrants receive from the Almighty.13“This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage that oppressors receive from the Almighty:
"Though his sons are many, they are destined for the sword; And his descendants will not be satisfied with bread.14If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword, and his descendants have not enough bread.
"His survivors will be buried because of the plague, And their widows will not be able to weep.15Those who survive him the pestilence buries, and his widows do not weep.
"Though he piles up silver like dust And prepares garments as plentiful as the clay,16Though he heap up silver like dust, and pile up clothing like clay,
He may prepare it, but the just will wear it And the innocent will divide the silver.17he may pile it up, but the righteous will wear it, and the innocent will divide the silver.
"He has built his house like the spider's web, Or as a hut which the watchman has made.18He builds his house like a moth’s, like a booth that a watchman makes.
"He lies down rich, but never again; He opens his eyes, and it is no longer.19He goes to bed rich, but will do so no more; he opens his eyes, and his wealth is gone.
"Terrors overtake him like a flood; A tempest steals him away in the night.20Terrors overtake him like a flood; in the night a whirlwind carries him off.
"The east wind carries him away, and he is gone, For it whirls him away from his place.21The east wind lifts him up and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.
"For it will hurl at him without sparing; He will surely try to flee from its power.22It hurls at him without pity; he flees from its power in headlong flight.
"Men will clap their hands at him And will hiss him from his place.23It claps its hands at him and hisses at him from its place.
