For the choir director; according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. My voice rises to God, and I will cry aloud; My voice rises to God, and He will hear me. | 1For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of Asaph. I will cry out to God and call for help! I will cry out to God and he will pay attention to me. |
In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; In the night my hand was stretched out without weariness; My soul refused to be comforted. | 2In my time of trouble I sought the Lord. I kept my hand raised in prayer throughout the night. I refused to be comforted. |
When I remember God, then I am disturbed; When I sigh, then my spirit grows faint. Selah. | 3I said, "I will remember God while I groan; I will think about him while my strength leaves me." (Selah) |
You have held my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. | 4You held my eyelids open; I was troubled and could not speak. |
I have considered the days of old, The years of long ago. | 5I thought about the days of old, about ancient times. |
I will remember my song in the night; I will meditate with my heart, And my spirit ponders: | 6I said, "During the night I will remember the song I once sang; I will think very carefully." I tried to make sense of what was happening. |
Will the Lord reject forever? And will He never be favorable again? | 7I asked, "Will the Lord reject me forever? Will he never again show me his favor? |
Has His lovingkindness ceased forever? Has His promise come to an end forever? | 8Has his loyal love disappeared forever? Has his promise failed forever? |
Has God forgotten to be gracious, Or has He in anger withdrawn His compassion? Selah. | 9Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has his anger stifled his compassion?" |
Then I said, "It is my grief, That the right hand of the Most High has changed." | 10Then I said, "I am sickened by the thought that the sovereign One might become inactive. |
I shall remember the deeds of the LORD; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. | 11I will remember the works of the LORD. Yes, I will remember the amazing things you did long ago! |
I will meditate on all Your work And muse on Your deeds. | 12I will think about all you have done; I will reflect upon your deeds!" |
Your way, O God, is holy; What god is great like our God? | 13O God, your deeds are extraordinary! What god can compare to our great God? |
You are the God who works wonders; You have made known Your strength among the peoples. | 14You are the God who does amazing things; you have revealed your strength among the nations. |
You have by Your power redeemed Your people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah. | 15You delivered your people by your strength--the children of Jacob and Joseph. (Selah) |
The waters saw You, O God; The waters saw You, they were in anguish; The deeps also trembled. | 16The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and trembled. Yes, the depths of the sea shook with fear. |
The clouds poured out water; The skies gave forth a sound; Your arrows flashed here and there. | 17The clouds poured down rain; the skies thundered. Yes, your arrows flashed about. |
The sound of Your thunder was in the whirlwind; The lightnings lit up the world; The earth trembled and shook. | 18Your thunderous voice was heard in the wind; the lightning bolts lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook. |
Your way was in the sea And Your paths in the mighty waters, And Your footprints may not be known. | 19You walked through the sea; you passed through the surging waters, but left no footprints. |
You led Your people like a flock By the hand of Moses and Aaron. | 20You led your people like a flock of sheep, by the hand of Moses and Aaron. |
