1"You are to make an altar for burning incense; you are to make it of acacia wood. | 1“You shall make an altar on which to burn incense; you shall make it of acacia wood. |
2Its length is to be a foot and a half and its width a foot and a half; it will be square. Its height is to be three feet, with its horns of one piece with it. | 2A cubit shall be its length, and a cubit its breadth. It shall be square, and two cubits shall be its height. Its horns shall be of one piece with it. |
3You are to overlay it with pure gold--its top, its four walls, and its horns--and make a surrounding border of gold for it. | 3You shall overlay it with pure gold, its top and around its sides and its horns. And you shall make a molding of gold around it. |
4You are to make two gold rings for it under its border, on its two flanks; you are to make them on its two sides. The rings will be places for poles to carry it with. | 4And you shall make two golden rings for it. Under its molding on two opposite sides of it you shall make them, and they shall be holders for poles with which to carry it. |
5You are to make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. | 5You shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. |
6"You are to put it in front of the curtain that is before the ark of the testimony (before the atonement lid that is over the testimony), where I will meet you. | 6And you shall put it in front of the veil that is above the ark of the testimony, in front of the mercy seat that is above the testimony, where I will meet with you. |
7Aaron is to burn sweet incense on it morning by morning; when he attends to the lamps he is to burn incense. | 7And Aaron shall burn fragrant incense on it. Every morning when he dresses the lamps he shall burn it, |
8When Aaron sets up the lamps around sundown he is to burn incense on it; it is to be a regular incense offering before the LORD throughout your generations. | 8and when Aaron sets up the lamps at twilight, he shall burn it, a regular incense offering before the LORD throughout your generations. |
9You must not offer strange incense on it, nor burnt offering, nor meal offering, and you must not pour out a drink offering on it. | 9You shall not offer unauthorized incense on it, or a burnt offering, or a grain offering, and you shall not pour a drink offering on it. |
10Aaron is to make atonement on its horns once in the year with some of the blood of the sin offering for atonement; once in the year he is to make atonement on it throughout your generations. It is most holy to the LORD." | 10Aaron shall make atonement on its horns once a year. With the blood of the sin offering of atonement he shall make atonement for it once in the year throughout your generations. It is most holy to the LORD.” |
11The LORD spoke to Moses: | 11The LORD said to Moses, |
12"When you take a census of the Israelites according to their number, then each man is to pay a ransom for his life to the LORD when you number them, so that there will be no plague among them when you number them. | 12“When you take the census of the people of Israel, then each shall give a ransom for his life to the LORD when you number them, that there be no plague among them when you number them. |
13Everyone who crosses over to those who are numbered is to pay this: a half shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (a shekel weighs twenty gerahs). The half shekel is to be an offering to the LORD. | 13Each one who is numbered in the census shall give this: half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel is twenty gerahs), half a shekel as an offering to the LORD. |
14Everyone who crosses over to those numbered, from twenty years old and up, is to pay an offering to the LORD. | 14Everyone who is numbered in the census, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the LORD’s offering. |
15The rich are not to increase it, and the poor are not to pay less than the half shekel when giving the offering of the LORD, to make atonement for your lives. | 15The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when you give the LORD’s offering to make atonement for your lives. |
16You are to receive the atonement money from the Israelites and give it for the service of the tent of meeting. It will be a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD, to make atonement for your lives." | 16You shall take the atonement money from the people of Israel and shall give it for the service of the tent of meeting, that it may bring the people of Israel to remembrance before the LORD, so as to make atonement for your lives.” |
17The LORD spoke to Moses: | 17The LORD said to Moses, |
18"You are also to make a large bronze basin with a bronze stand for washing. You are to put it between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it, | 18“You shall also make a basin of bronze, with its stand of bronze, for washing. You shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it, |
19and Aaron and his sons must wash their hands and their feet from it. | 19with which Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet. |
20When they enter the tent of meeting, they must wash with water so that they do not die. Also, when they approach the altar to minister by burning incense as an offering made by fire to the LORD, | 20When they go into the tent of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn a food offering to the LORD, they shall wash with water, so that they may not die. |
21they must wash their hands and their feet so that they do not die. And this will be a perpetual ordinance for them and for their descendants throughout their generations." | 21They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they may not die. It shall be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his offspring throughout their generations.” |
22The LORD spoke to Moses: | 22The LORD said to Moses, |
23"Take choice spices: twelve and a half pounds of free-flowing myrrh, half that--about six and a quarter pounds--of sweet-smelling cinnamon, six and a quarter pounds of sweet-smelling cane, | 23“Take the finest spices: of liquid myrrh 500 shekels, and of sweet-smelling cinnamon half as much, that is, 250, and 250 of aromatic cane, |
24and twelve and a half pounds of cassia, all weighed according to the sanctuary shekel, and four quarts of olive oil. | 24and 500 of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil. |
25You are to make this into a sacred anointing oil, a perfumed compound, the work of a perfumer. It will be sacred anointing oil. | 25And you shall make of these a sacred anointing oil blended as by the perfumer; it shall be a holy anointing oil. |
26"With it you are to anoint the tent of meeting, the ark of the testimony, | 26With it you shall anoint the tent of meeting and the ark of the testimony, |
27the table and all its utensils, the lampstand and its utensils, the altar of incense, | 27and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense, |
28the altar for the burnt offering and all its utensils, and the laver and its base. | 28and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils and the basin and its stand. |
29So you are to sanctify them, and they will be most holy; anything that touches them will be holy. | 29You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy. Whatever touches them will become holy. |
30"You are to anoint Aaron and his sons and sanctify them, so that they may minister as my priests. | 30You shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests. |
31And you are to tell the Israelites: 'This is to be my sacred anointing oil throughout your generations. | 31And you shall say to the people of Israel, ‘This shall be my holy anointing oil throughout your generations. |
32It must not be applied to people's bodies, and you must not make any like it with the same recipe. It is holy, and it must be holy to you. | 32It shall not be poured on the body of an ordinary person, and you shall make no other like it in composition. It is holy, and it shall be holy to you. |
33Whoever makes perfume like it and whoever puts any of it on someone not a priest will be cut off from his people.'" | 33Whoever compounds any like it or whoever puts any of it on an outsider shall be cut off from his people.’” |
34The LORD said to Moses: "Take spices, gum resin, onycha, galbanum, and pure frankincense of equal amounts | 34The LORD said to Moses, “Take sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum, sweet spices with pure frankincense (of each shall there be an equal part), |
35and make it into an incense, a perfume, the work of a perfumer. It is to be finely ground, and pure and sacred. | 35and make an incense blended as by the perfumer, seasoned with salt, pure and holy. |
36You are to beat some of it very fine and put some of it before the ark of the testimony in the tent of meeting where I will meet with you; it is to be most holy to you. | 36You shall beat some of it very small, and put part of it before the testimony in the tent of meeting where I shall meet with you. It shall be most holy for you. |
37And the incense that you are to make, you must not make for yourselves using the same recipe; it is to be most holy to you, belonging to the LORD. | 37And the incense that you shall make according to its composition, you shall not make for yourselves. It shall be for you holy to the LORD. |
38Whoever makes anything like it, to use as perfume, will be cut off from his people." | 38Whoever makes any like it to use as perfume shall be cut off from his people.” |
