NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
After Moses the LORD's servant died, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' assistant:1After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant,
"Moses my servant is dead. Get ready! Cross the Jordan River! Lead these people into the land which I am ready to hand over to them.2“Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel.
I am handing over to you every place you set foot, as I promised Moses.3Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses.
Your territory will extend from the wilderness in the south to Lebanon in the north. It will extend all the way to the great River Euphrates in the east (including all of Syria) and all the way to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.4From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory.
No one will be able to resist you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not abandon you or leave you alone.5No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.
Be strong and brave! You must lead these people in the conquest of this land that I solemnly promised their ancestors I would hand over to them.6Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.
Make sure you are very strong and brave! Carefully obey all the law my servant Moses charged you to keep! Do not swerve from it to the right or to the left, so that you may be successful in all you do.7Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.
This law scroll must not leave your lips! You must memorize it day and night so you can carefully obey all that is written in it. Then you will prosper and be successful.8This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
I repeat, be strong and brave! Don't be afraid and don't panic, for I, the LORD your God, am with you in all you do." 9Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua instructed the leaders of the people:10And Joshua commanded the officers of the people,
"Go through the camp and command the people, 'Prepare your supplies, for within three days you will cross the Jordan River and begin the conquest of the land the LORD your God is ready to hand over to you.'" 11“Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan to go in to take possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.’”
Joshua told the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh:12And to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh Joshua said,
"Remember what Moses the LORD's servant commanded you. The LORD your God is giving you a place to settle and is handing this land over to you.13“Remember the word that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, ‘The LORD your God is providing you a place of rest and will give you this land.’
Your wives, children and cattle may stay in the land that Moses assigned to you east of the Jordan River. But all you warriors must cross over armed for battle ahead of your brothers. You must help them14Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land that Moses gave you beyond the Jordan, but all the men of valor among you shall pass over armed before your brothers and shall help them,
until the LORD gives your brothers a place like yours to settle and they conquer the land the LORD your God is ready to hand over to them. Then you may go back to your allotted land and occupy the land Moses the LORD's servant assigned you east of the Jordan." 15until the LORD gives rest to your brothers as he has to you, and they also take possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession and shall possess it, the land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.”
They told Joshua, "We will do everything you say. We will go wherever you send us.16And they answered Joshua, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.
Just as we obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. But may the LORD your God be with you as he was with Moses!17Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you. Only may the LORD your God be with you, as he was with Moses!
Any man who rebels against what you say and does not obey all your commands will be executed. But be strong and brave!" 18Whoever rebels against your commandment and disobeys your words, whatever you command him, shall be put to death. Only be strong and courageous.”
