| 1The LORD spoke to Moses: | 1And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, |
| 2"Speak to the Israelites and tell them, 'I am the LORD your God! | 2“Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, I am the LORD your God. |
| 3You must not do as they do in the land of Egypt where you have been living, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan into which I am about to bring you; you must not walk in their statutes. | 3You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived, and you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you. You shall not walk in their statutes. |
| 4You must observe my regulations and you must be sure to walk in my statutes. I am the LORD your God. | 4You shall follow my rules and keep my statutes and walk in them. I am the LORD your God. |
| 5So you must keep my statutes and my regulations; anyone who does so will live by keeping them. I am the LORD. | 5You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules; if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the LORD. |
| 6"'No man is to approach any close relative to have sexual intercourse with her. I am the LORD. | 6“None of you shall approach any one of his close relatives to uncover nakedness. I am the LORD. |
| 7You must not expose your father's nakedness by having sexual intercourse with your mother. She is your mother; you must not have intercourse with her. | 7You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, which is the nakedness of your mother; she is your mother, you shall not uncover her nakedness. |
| 8You must not have sexual intercourse with your father's wife; she is your father's nakedness. | 8You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife; it is your father’s nakedness. |
| 9You must not have sexual intercourse with your sister, whether she is your father's daughter or your mother's daughter, whether she is born in the same household or born outside it; you must not have sexual intercourse with either of them. | 9You shall not uncover the nakedness of your sister, your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether brought up in the family or in another home. |

| 15You must not have sexual intercourse with your daughter-in-law; she is your son's wife. You must not have intercourse with her. | 15You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law; she is your son’s wife, you shall not uncover her nakedness. |
| 16You must not have sexual intercourse with your brother's wife; she is your brother's nakedness. | 16You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it is your brother’s nakedness. |
| 17You must not have sexual intercourse with both a woman and her daughter; you must not take as wife either her son's daughter or her daughter's daughter to have intercourse with them. They are closely related to her--it is lewdness. | 17You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and of her daughter, and you shall not take her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter to uncover her nakedness; they are relatives; it is depravity. |
| 18You must not take a woman in marriage and then marry her sister as a rival wife while she is still alive, to have sexual intercourse with her. | 18And you shall not take a woman as a rival wife to her sister, uncovering her nakedness while her sister is still alive. |
| 19"'You must not approach a woman in her menstrual impurity to have sexual intercourse with her. | 19“You shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness while she is in her menstrual uncleanness. |
| 20You must not have sexual intercourse with the wife of your fellow citizen to become unclean with her. | 20And you shall not lie sexually with your neighbor’s wife and so make yourself unclean with her. |
| 21You must not give any of your children as an offering to Molech, so that you do not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD! | 21You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the LORD. |
| 22You must not have sexual intercourse with a male as one has sexual intercourse with a woman; it is a detestable act. | 22You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. |
| 23You must not have sexual intercourse with any animal to become defiled with it, and a woman must not stand before an animal to have sexual intercourse with it; it is a perversion. | 23And you shall not lie with any animal and so make yourself unclean with it, neither shall any woman give herself to an animal to lie with it: it is perversion. |
| 24"'Do not defile yourselves with any of these things, for the nations which I am about to drive out before you have been defiled with all these things. | 24“Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these things, for by all these the nations I am driving out before you have become unclean, |
| 25Therefore the land has become unclean and I have brought the punishment for its iniquity upon it, so that the land has vomited out its inhabitants. | 25and the land became unclean, so that I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. |
| 26You yourselves must obey my statutes and my regulations and must not do any of these abominations, both the native citizen and the resident foreigner in your midst, | 26But you shall keep my statutes and my rules and do none of these abominations, either the native or the stranger who sojourns among you |
| 27for the people who were in the land before you have done all these abominations, and the land has become unclean. | 27(for the people of the land, who were before you, did all of these abominations, so that the land became unclean), |
| 28So do not make the land vomit you out because you defile it just as it has vomited out the nations that were before you. | 28lest the land vomit you out when you make it unclean, as it vomited out the nation that was before you. |
| 29For if anyone does any of these abominations, the persons who do them will be cut off from the midst of their people. | 29For everyone who does any of these abominations, the persons who do them shall be cut off from among their people. |
| 30You must obey my charge to not practice any of the abominable statutes that have been done before you, so that you do not defile yourselves by them. I am the LORD your God.'" | 30So keep my charge never to practice any of these abominable customs that were practiced before you, and never to make yourselves unclean by them: I am the LORD your God.” |
