Psalm 41
NET Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
For the music director; a psalm of David. How blessed is the one who treats the poor properly! When trouble comes, the LORD delivers him. 1Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble the LORD delivers him;
May the LORD protect him and save his life! May he be blessed in the land! Do not turn him over to his enemies! 2the LORD protects him and keeps him alive; he is called blessed in the land; you do not give him up to the will of his enemies.
The LORD supports him on his sickbed; you completely heal him from his illness. 3The LORD sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health.
As for me, I said: "O LORD, have mercy on me! Heal me, for I have sinned against you! 4As for me, I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against you!”
My enemies ask this cruel question about me, 'When will he finally die and be forgotten?' 5My enemies say of me in malice, “When will he die, and his name perish?”
When someone comes to visit, he pretends to be friendly; he thinks of ways to defame me, and when he leaves he slanders me. 6And when one comes to see me, he utters empty words, while his heart gathers iniquity; when he goes out, he tells it abroad.
All who hate me whisper insults about me to one another; they plan ways to harm me. 7All who hate me whisper together about me; they imagine the worst for me.
They say, 'An awful disease overwhelms him, and now that he is bed-ridden he will never recover.' 8They say, “A deadly thing is poured out on him; he will not rise again from where he lies.”
Even my close friend whom I trusted, he who shared meals with me, has turned against me. 9Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.
As for you, O LORD, have mercy on me and raise me up, so I can pay them back!" 10But you, O LORD, be gracious to me, and raise me up, that I may repay them!
By this I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. 11By this I know that you delight in me: my enemy will not shout in triumph over me.
As for me, you uphold me because of my integrity; you allow me permanent access to your presence. 12But you have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in your presence forever.
The LORD God of Israel deserves praise in the future and forevermore! We agree! We agree! 13Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! Amen and Amen.
