Psalm 86
NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
A prayer of David. Listen O LORD! Answer me! For I am oppressed and needy. 1Incline your ear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.
Protect me, for I am loyal! O my God, deliver your servant, who trusts in you! 2Preserve my life, for I am godly; save your servant, who trusts in you—you are my God.
Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I cry out to you all day long! 3Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all the day.
Make your servant glad, for to you, O Lord, I pray! 4Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
Certainly O Lord, you are kind and forgiving, and show great faithfulness to all who cry out to you. 5For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.
O LORD, hear my prayer! Pay attention to my plea for mercy! 6Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace.
In my time of trouble I cry out to you, for you will answer me. 7In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me.
None can compare to you among the gods, O Lord! Your exploits are incomparable! 8There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours.
All the nations, whom you created, will come and worship you, O Lord. They will honor your name. 9All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.
For you are great and do amazing things. You alone are God. 10For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God.
O LORD, teach me how you want me to live! Then I will obey your commands. Make me wholeheartedly committed to you! 11Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.
O Lord, my God, I will give you thanks with my whole heart! I will honor your name continually! 12I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.
For you will extend your great loyal love to me, and will deliver my life from the depths of Sheol. 13For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.
O God, arrogant men attack me; a gang of ruthless men, who do not respect you, seek my life. 14O God, insolent men have risen up against me; a band of ruthless men seeks my life, and they do not set you before them.
But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and merciful God. You are patient and demonstrate great loyal love and faithfulness. 15But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
Turn toward me and have mercy on me! Give your servant your strength! Deliver your slave! 16Turn to me and be gracious to me; give your strength to your servant, and save the son of your maidservant.
Show me evidence of your favor! Then those who hate me will see it and be ashamed, for you, O LORD, will help me and comfort me. 17Show me a sign of your favor, that those who hate me may see and be put to shame because you, LORD, have helped me and comforted me.
