After he came down from the mountain, large crowds followed him.1When Jesus came down from the hillside, large crowds followed him.
And a leper approached, and bowed low before him, saying, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean."2Suddenly, a leper came up to him, fell down before him, and said, "Sir, if you want to, you can make me clean."
He stretched out his hand and touched him saying, "I am willing. Be clean!" Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.3So Jesus reached out his hand, touched him, and said, "I do want to. Be clean!" And instantly his leprosy was made clean.
Then Jesus said to him, "See that you do not speak to anyone, but go, show yourself to a priest, and bring the offering that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." 4Then Jesus told him, "See to it that you don't speak to anyone. Instead, go and show yourself to the priest, and then offer the sacrifice that Moses commanded as proof to the authorities."
When he entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him asking for help:5When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a centurion came up to him and begged him repeatedly,
"Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, in terrible anguish."6"Sir, my servant is lying at home paralyzed and in terrible pain."
Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him."7Jesus told him, "I will come and heal him."
But the centurion replied, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. Instead, just say the word and my servant will be healed.8The centurion replied, "Sir, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed,
For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I say to this one, 'Go' and he goes, and to another 'Come' and he comes, and to my slave 'Do this' and he does it."9because I, too, am a man under authority and I have soldiers under me. I say to one of them 'Go' and he goes, to another 'Come' and he comes, and to my servant 'Do this' and he does it."
When Jesus heard this he was amazed and said to those who followed him, "I tell you the truth, I have not found such faith in anyone in Israel!10When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and told those who were following him, "I tell all of you with certainty, not even in Israel have I found this kind of faith!
I tell you, many will come from the east and west to share the banquet with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,11I tell all of you, many will come from east and west and will feast with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom from heaven.
but the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."12But the unfaithful heirs of that kingdom will be thrown into the darkness outside. In that place there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth."
Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go; just as you believed, it will be done for you." And the servant was healed at that hour. 13"Go," Jesus told the centurion, "and it will be done for you, just as you have believed." And his servant was healed that very hour.
Now when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying down, sick with a fever.14When Jesus went into Peter's house, he saw Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed, sick with a fever.
He touched her hand, and the fever left her. Then she got up and began to serve them.15He touched her hand, and the fever left her. Then she got up and began serving him.
When it was evening, many demon-possessed people were brought to him. He drove out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick.16When evening came, people brought to him many who were possessed by demons. He drove out the spirits by speaking a command and healed everyone who was sick.
In this way what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet was fulfilled: "He took our weaknesses and carried our diseases." 17This was to fulfill what was declared by the prophet Isaiah when he said, "It was he who took our illnesses away and removed our diseases."
Now when Jesus saw a large crowd around him, he gave orders to go to the other side of the lake.18When Jesus saw the large crowds around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the Sea of Galilee.
Then an expert in the law came to him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."19Just then, a scribe came up and told him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
Jesus said to him, "Foxes have dens, and the birds in the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."20Jesus told him, "Foxes have holes and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to rest."
Another of the disciples said to him, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father."21Then another of his disciples told him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead." 22But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."
As he got into the boat, his disciples followed him.23When Jesus got into the boat, his disciples went with him.
And a great storm developed on the sea so that the waves began to swamp the boat. But he was asleep.24Suddenly, a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat began to be swamped by the waves. Yet Jesus kept sleeping.
So they came and woke him up saying, "Lord, save us! We are about to die!"25They went to him and woke him up. "Lord!" they cried, "Save us! We're going to die!"
But he said to them, "Why are you cowardly, you people of little faith?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was dead calm.26He asked them, "Why are you afraid, you who have little faith?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
And the men were amazed and said, "What sort of person is this? Even the winds and the sea obey him!" 27The men were amazed. "What kind of man is this?" they asked. "Even the winds and the sea obey him!"
When he came to the other side, to the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were extremely violent, so that no one was able to pass by that way.28When Jesus arrived on the other side in the region of the Gerasenes, two demon-possessed men met him as they were coming out of the tombs. They were so violent that no one could travel on that road.
They cried out, "Son of God, leave us alone! Have you come here to torment us before the time?"29Suddenly, they screamed, "What do you want with us, Son of God? Did you come here to torture us before the proper time?"
A large herd of pigs was feeding some distance from them.30Now a large herd of pigs was grazing some distance away from them.
Then the demons begged him, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs."31So the demons began to plead with Jesus, saying, "If you drive us out, send us into that herd of pigs."
And he said, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep slope into the lake and drowned in the water.32He told them, "Go," and they came out and went into the pigs. Suddenly, the whole herd rushed down the cliff into the sea and drowned in the water.
The herdsmen ran off, went into the town, and told everything that had happened to the demon-possessed men.33Now when those who had been taking care of the pigs ran away, they came into the city and reported everything, especially what had happened to the demon-possessed men.
Then the entire town came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region. 34Then the whole city went out to meet Jesus, and as soon as they saw him, they begged him to leave their region.
