| 1A song of ascents. Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion; it cannot be upended and will endure forever. | 1Those who are trusting in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be overthrown. They remain forever. |
| 2As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, now and forevermore. | 2Just as mountains encircle Jerusalem, so the LORD encircles his people, from now to eternity. |
| 3Indeed, the scepter of a wicked king will not settle upon the allotted land of the godly. Otherwise the godly might do what is wrong. | 3For evil's scepter will not rest on the land that has been allotted to the righteous, and so the righteous will not direct themselves to do wrong. |
| 4Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, to the morally upright! | 4LORD, do good to those who are good, and to those who are upright in heart. |
| 5As for those who are bent on traveling a sinful path, may the LORD remove them, along with those who behave wickedly! May Israel experience peace! | 5But for those who choose their own devious paths, the LORD will lead them away, along with those who practice evil. Peace be upon Israel. |
