A day of the LORD is about to come when your possessions will be divided as plunder in your midst.1"Look! A day is coming for the LORD, when your plunder will be divided among you.
For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to wage war; the city will be taken, its houses plundered, and the women raped. Then half of the city will go into exile, but the remainder of the people will not be taken away. 2I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem, to lay siege against it. The city will be captured, the houses will be ransacked, the women raped, and half of the city will go into exile, but the remaining people will not be cut off from the city.
Then the LORD will go to battle and fight against those nations, just as he fought battles in ancient days.3Then the LORD will go out to battle against those nations, waging war as in a day of battle.
On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives which lies to the east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in half from east to west, leaving a great valley. Half the mountain will move northward and the other half southward.4His feet will stand in that day on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem. Then the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a very large valley, with half of the mountain moving toward the north and half toward the south.
Then you will escape through my mountain valley, for the mountains will extend to Azal. Indeed, you will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of King Uzziah of Judah. Then the LORD my God will come with all his holy ones with him.5You will run away through my mountain valley, because the valley of the mountains will extend as far as Azal. You will flee, as you fled from the earthquake during the reign of King Uzziah of Judah. And so the LORD my God will come, and all his holy ones will be accompanying you."
On that day there will be no light--the sources of light in the heavens will congeal.6"At that time, the daylight will be neither bright nor overcast.
It will happen in one day (a day known to the LORD); not in the day or the night, but in the evening there will be light.7It will be a unique day, known only to the LORD—neither daytime nor nighttime—and it will come about at twilight there will be light!
Moreover, on that day living waters will flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea and half of them to the western sea; it will happen both in summer and in winter. 8At that time, flowing waters will run perennially from Jerusalem, half toward the Dead Sea and half to the Mediterranean Sea.
The LORD will then be king over all the earth. In that day the LORD will be seen as one with a single name.9The LORD will be king over all the earth at that time. There will be one LORD, and his name the only one.
All the land will change and become like the Arabah from Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem; and Jerusalem will be raised up and will stay in its own place from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate and on to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses.10The entire land will become like the Arabah plain from Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem. It will be raised up and inhabited where it is, from the Gate of Benjamin to the First Gate, then to the Corner Gate, to the Hananel Tower, and to the king's winepresses.
And people will settle there, and there will no longer be the threat of divine extermination--Jerusalem will dwell in security. 11People will live there, there will be no more destruction, and Jerusalem will be safely inhabited."
But this will be the nature of the plague with which the LORD will strike all the nations that have fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will decay while they stand on their feet, their eyes will rot away in their sockets, and their tongues will dissolve in their mouths.12"This will be the plague with which the LORD inflicts all of the people who have attacked Jerusalem: he will cause their flesh to rot away, even while they're standing on their feet. He will cause their eyes to rot away in their sockets, and their tongues to rot away in their mouths.
On that day there will be great confusion from the LORD among them; they will seize each other and attack one another violently.13At that time, they will be stricken with a terrible panic from the LORD. Everyone will attack each other.
Moreover, Judah will fight at Jerusalem, and the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be gathered up--gold, silver, and clothing in great abundance.14Judah, too, will fight at Jerusalem. Then the wealth of the surrounding nations will be gathered up: gold, silver, and clothing in great abundance.
This is the kind of plague that will devastate horses, mules, camels, donkeys, and all the other animals in those camps. 15A similar plague will also strike horses, mules, camels, donkeys, and all of the animals in those camps."
Then all who survive from all the nations that came to attack Jerusalem will go up annually to worship the King, the LORD who rules over all, and to observe the Feast of Tabernacles.16"It will come about that all of the survivors of the nations who came against Jerusalem will come there from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, and to observe the Festival of Tents.
But if any of the nations anywhere on earth refuse to go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD who rules over all, they will get no rain.17If anyone from the families of the earth will not come to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, there will be no rain for them.
If the Egyptians will not do so, they will get no rain--instead there will be the kind of plague which the LORD inflicts on any nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.18If the people of Egypt do not come to Jerusalem to take part, they will have no annual Nile overflow. A plague will come from the LORD to strike the nations who do not come to observe the Festival of Tents.
This will be the punishment of Egypt and of all nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. 19This will be the punishment for Egypt and all nations who do not come to observe the Festival of Tents."
On that day the bells of the horses will bear the inscription "Holy to the Lord." The cooking pots in the LORD's temple will be as holy as the bowls in front of the altar.20"At that time, there will be written on the bells of the horses: HOLINESS TO THE LORD and the pots in the Temple of the LORD will be like the bowls in front of the altar—
Every cooking pot in Jerusalem and Judah will become holy in the sight of the LORD who rules over all, so that all who offer sacrifices may come and use some of them to boil their sacrifices in them. On that day there will no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the LORD who rules over all. 21every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be consecrated to the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. Everyone who offers sacrifices will come, will take them, and will cook in them. Furthermore, at that time, there will no longer be a Canaanite in the Temple of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies."
