For the music director; by David. Fools say to themselves, "There is no God." They sin and commit evil deeds; none of them does what is right. | 1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. |
The LORD looks down from heaven at the human race, to see if there is anyone who is wise and seeks God. | 2The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. |
Everyone rejects God; they are all morally corrupt. None of them does what is right, not even one! | 3They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. |
All those who behave wickedly do not understand--those who devour my people as if they were eating bread, and do not call out to the LORD. | 4Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. |
They are absolutely terrified, for God defends the godly. | 5There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous. |
You want to humiliate the oppressed, even though the LORD is their shelter. | 6Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge. |
I wish the deliverance of Israel would come from Zion! When the LORD restores the well-being of his people, may Jacob rejoice, may Israel be happy! | 7Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. |
