Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice--alive, holy, and pleasing to God--which is your reasonable service.1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God--what is good and well-pleasing and perfect. 2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
For by the grace given to me I say to every one of you not to think more highly of yourself than you ought to think, but to think with sober discernment, as God has distributed to each of you a measure of faith.3For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
For just as in one body we have many members, and not all the members serve the same function,4For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
so we who are many are one body in Christ, and individually we are members who belong to one another.5So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
And we have different gifts according to the grace given to us. If the gift is prophecy, that individual must use it in proportion to his faith.6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
If it is service, he must serve; if it is teaching, he must teach;7Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
if it is exhortation, he must exhort; if it is contributing, he must do so with sincerity; if it is leadership, he must do so with diligence; if it is showing mercy, he must do so with cheerfulness. 8Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
Love must be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil, cling to what is good.9Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
Be devoted to one another with mutual love, showing eagerness in honoring one another.10Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
Do not lag in zeal, be enthusiastic in spirit, serve the Lord.11Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
Rejoice in hope, endure in suffering, persist in prayer.12Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
Contribute to the needs of the saints, pursue hospitality.13Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse.14Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.15Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited.16Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
Do not repay anyone evil for evil; consider what is good before all people.17Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all people.18If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God's wrath, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay," says the Lord.19Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Rather, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing this you will be heaping burning coals on his head.20Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. 21Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
