Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, partners in a heavenly calling, take note of Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess, | 1Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession; |
who is faithful to the one who appointed him, as Moses was also in God's house. | 2He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house. |
For he has come to deserve greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house deserves greater honor than the house itself! | 3For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house. |
For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. | 4For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. |
Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken. | 5Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later; |
But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. We are of his house, if in fact we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope we take pride in. | 6but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house-- whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. |
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, "Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks! | 7Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, |
"Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness. | 8DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME, AS IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS, |
"There your fathers tested me and tried me, and they saw my works for forty years. | 9WHERE YOUR FATHERS TRIED Me BY TESTING Me, AND SAW MY WORKS FOR FORTY YEARS. |
"Therefore, I became provoked at that generation and said, 'Their hearts are always wandering and they have not known my ways.' | 10"THEREFORE I WAS ANGRY WITH THIS GENERATION, AND SAID, 'THEY ALWAYS GO ASTRAY IN THEIR HEART, AND THEY DID NOT KNOW MY WAYS'; |
"As I swore in my anger, 'They will never enter my rest!'" | 11AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, 'THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.'" |
See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has an evil, unbelieving heart that forsakes the living God. | 12Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. |
But exhort one another each day, as long as it is called "Today," that none of you may become hardened by sin's deception. | 13But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. |
For we have become partners with Christ, if in fact we hold our initial confidence firm until the end. | 14For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, |
As it says, "Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks! Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion." | 15while it is said, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME." |
For which ones heard and rebelled? Was it not all who came out of Egypt under Moses' leadership? | 16For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? |
And against whom was God provoked for forty years? Was it not those who sinned, whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness? | 17And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? |
And to whom did he swear they would never enter into his rest, except those who were disobedient? | 18And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient? |
So we see that they could not enter because of unbelief. | 19So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. |
