| 1Now a man named Ananias, together with Sapphira his wife, sold a piece of property. | 1Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. |
| 2He kept back for himself part of the proceeds with his wife's knowledge; he brought only part of it and placed it at the apostles' feet. | 2With his wife's full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles' feet. |
| 3But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back for yourself part of the proceeds from the sale of the land? | 3Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? |
| 4Before it was sold, did it not belong to you? And when it was sold, was the money not at your disposal? How have you thought up this deed in your heart? You have not lied just to human beings but to God." |

| 26Then the commander of the temple guard went with the officers and brought the apostles without the use of force (for they were afraid of being stoned by the people). | 26At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. | 28saying, "We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name.
