1A psalm of David. The LORD owns the earth and all it contains, the world and all who live in it. | 1Of David. A psalm. The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; |
2For he set its foundation upon the seas, and established it upon the ocean currents. | 2for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. |
3Who is allowed to ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may go up to his holy dwelling place? | 3Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? |
4The one whose deeds are blameless and whose motives are pure, who does not lie, or make promises with no intention of keeping them. | 4The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. |
5Such godly people are rewarded by the LORD, and vindicated by the God who delivers them. | 5They will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God their Savior. |
6Such purity characterizes the people who seek his favor, Jacob's descendants, who pray to him. (Selah) | 6Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. |
7Look up, you gates! Rise up, you eternal doors! Then the majestic king will enter! | 7Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. |
8Who is this majestic king? The LORD who is strong and mighty! The LORD who is mighty in battle! | 8Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. |
9Look up, you gates! Rise up, you eternal doors! Then the majestic king will enter! | 9Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. |
10Who is this majestic king? The LORD who commands armies! He is the majestic king! (Selah) | 10Who is he, this King of glory? The LORD Almighty-- he is the King of glory. |
