A psalm of David. The LORD owns the earth and all it contains, the world and all who live in it. | 1A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD'S, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it. |
For he set its foundation upon the seas, and established it upon the ocean currents. | 2For He has founded it upon the seas And established it upon the rivers. |
Who is allowed to ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may go up to his holy dwelling place? | 3Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? And who may stand in His holy place? |
The one whose deeds are blameless and whose motives are pure, who does not lie, or make promises with no intention of keeping them. | 4He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood And has not sworn deceitfully. |
Such godly people are rewarded by the LORD, and vindicated by the God who delivers them. | 5He shall receive a blessing from the LORD And righteousness from the God of his salvation. |
Such purity characterizes the people who seek his favor, Jacob's descendants, who pray to him. (Selah) | 6This is the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face-- even Jacob. Selah. |
Look up, you gates! Rise up, you eternal doors! Then the majestic king will enter! | 7Lift up your heads, O gates, And be lifted up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! |
Who is this majestic king? The LORD who is strong and mighty! The LORD who is mighty in battle! | 8Who is the King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. |
Look up, you gates! Rise up, you eternal doors! Then the majestic king will enter! | 9Lift up your heads, O gates, And lift them up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! |
Who is this majestic king? The LORD who commands armies! He is the majestic king! (Selah) | 10Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah. |
