NET Bible | New International Version |
For the music director; a well-written song by the Korahites. As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God! | 1For the director of music. A maskil of the Sons of Korah. As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. |
I thirst for God, for the living God. I say, "When will I be able to go and appear in God's presence?" | 2My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? |
I cannot eat, I weep day and night; all day long they say to me, "Where is your God?" | 3My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, "Where is your God?" |
I will remember and weep! For I was once walking along with the great throng to the temple of God, shouting and giving thanks along with the crowd as we celebrated the holy festival. | 4These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng. |
Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention. | 5Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. |
I am depressed, so I will pray to you while I am trapped here in the region of the upper Jordan, from Hermon, from Mount Mizar. | 6My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon--from Mount Mizar. |
One deep stream calls out to another at the sound of your waterfalls; all your billows and waves overwhelm me. | 7Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me. |
By day the LORD decrees his loyal love, and by night he gives me a song, a prayer to the living God. | 8By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me-- a prayer to the God of my life. |
I will pray to God, my high ridge: "Why do you ignore me? Why must I walk around mourning because my enemies oppress me?" | 9I say to God my Rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?" |
My enemies' taunts cut into me to the bone, as they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?" | 10My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long, "Where is your God?" |
Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention. | 11Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. |
