New International Version | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
For the director of music. For pipes. A psalm of David. Listen to my words, LORD, consider my lament. | 1For the choir director: with the flutes. A Davidic psalm. Listen to my words, LORD; consider my sighing. |
Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. | 2Pay attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for I pray to You. |
In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. | 3At daybreak, LORD, You hear my voice; at daybreak I plead my case to You and watch expectantly. |
For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness; with you, evil people are not welcome. | 4For You are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil cannot dwell with You. |
The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong; | 5The boastful cannot stand in Your presence; You hate all evildoers. |
you destroy those who tell lies. The bloodthirsty and deceitful you, LORD, detest. | 6You destroy those who tell lies; the LORD abhors a man of bloodshed and treachery. |
But I, by your great love, can come into your house; in reverence I bow down toward your holy temple. | 7But I enter Your house by the abundance of Your faithful love; I bow down toward Your holy temple in reverential awe of You. |
Lead me, LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies-- make your way straight before me. | 8 LORD, lead me in Your righteousness because of my adversaries; make Your way straight before me. |
Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with malice. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they tell lies. | 9For there is nothing reliable in what they say; destruction is within them; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongues. |
Declare them guilty, O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall. Banish them for their many sins, for they have rebelled against you. | 10Punish them, God; let them fall by their own schemes. Drive them out because of their many crimes, for they rebel against You. |
But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. | 11But let all who take refuge in You rejoice; let them shout for joy forever. May You shelter them, and may those who love Your name boast about You. |
Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield. | 12For You, LORD, bless the righteous one; You surround him with favor like a shield. |
