But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:1But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come.
For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,2For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,3unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good,
traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,4traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Turn away from such as these!
For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts,6They are the kind who worm their way into households and captivate vulnerable women who are weighed down with sins and led astray by various passions,
always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.7who are always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.
Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth. They are depraved in mind and disqualified from the faith.
but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.9But they will not advance much further. For just like Jannes and Jambres, their folly will be plain to everyone.
But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance,10You, however, have observed my teaching, my conduct, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love, my perseverance,
persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.11my persecutions, and the sufferings that came upon me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.
Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.12Indeed, all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.13while evil men and imposters go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them,14But as for you, continue in the things you have learned and firmly believed, since you know from whom you have learned them.
and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.15From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.17so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.
