New King James Version | New American Standard Bible 1995 |
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: | 1But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. |
For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, | 2For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, |
unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, | 3unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, |
traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, | 4treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, |
having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! | 5holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. |
For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, | 6For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, |
always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. | 7always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. |
Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; | 8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith. |
but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was. | 9But they will not make further progress; for their folly will be obvious to all, just as Jannes's and Jambres's folly was also. |
But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, | 10Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance, |
persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. | 11persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me! |
Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. | 12Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. |
But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. | 13But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. |
But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, | 14You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, |
and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. | 15and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. |
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, | 16All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; |
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. | 17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. |
