And He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand.1Once again Jesus entered the synagogue, and a man with a withered hand was there.
So they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him.2In order to accuse Jesus, they were watching to see if He would heal on the Sabbath.
And He said to the man who had the withered hand, “Step forward.”3Then Jesus said to the man with the withered hand, “Stand up among us.”
Then He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent.4And He asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” But they were silent.
And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other.5Jesus looked around at them with anger and sorrow at their hardness of heart. Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and it was restored.
Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.6At this, the Pharisees went out and began plotting with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.
But Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea. And a great multitude from Galilee followed Him, and from Judea7So Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea, accompanied by a large crowd from Galilee, Judea,
and Jerusalem and Idumea and beyond the Jordan; and those from Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they heard how many things He was doing, came to Him.8Jerusalem, Idumea, the region beyond the Jordan, and the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon. The large crowd came to Him when they heard what great things He was doing.
So He told His disciples that a small boat should be kept ready for Him because of the multitude, lest they should crush Him.9Jesus asked His disciples to have a boat ready for Him so that the crowd would not crush Him.
For He healed many, so that as many as had afflictions pressed about Him to touch Him.10For He had healed so many that all who had diseases were pressing forward to touch Him.
And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw Him, fell down before Him and cried out, saying, “You are the Son of God.”11And when the unclean spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him and cried out, “You are the Son of God!”
But He sternly warned them that they should not make Him known.12But He warned them sternly not to make Him known.
And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him.13Then Jesus went up on the mountain and called for those He wanted, and they came to Him.
Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach,14He appointed twelve of them, whom He designated as apostles, to accompany Him, to be sent out to preach,
and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons:15and to have authority to drive out demons.
Simon, to whom He gave the name Peter;16These are the twelve He appointed: Simon (whom He named Peter),
James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom He gave the name Boanerges, that is, “Sons of Thunder”;17James son of Zebedee and his brother John (whom He named Boanerges, meaning “Sons of Thunder”),
Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Cananite;18Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot,
and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. And they went into a house.19and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus.
Then the multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.20Then Jesus went home, and once again a crowd gathered, so that He and His disciples could not even eat.
But when His own people heard about this, they went out to lay hold of Him, for they said, “He is out of His mind.”21When His family heard about this, they went out to take custody of Him, saying, “He is out of His mind.”
And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He has Beelzebub,” and, “By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons.”22And the scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and, “By the prince of the demons He drives out demons.”
So He called them to Himself and said to them in parables: “How can Satan cast out Satan?23So Jesus called them together and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan?
If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.24If a kingdom is divided against itself, it cannot stand.
And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.25If a house is divided against itself, it cannot stand.
And if Satan has risen up against himself, and is divided, he cannot stand, but has an end.26And if Satan is divided and rises against himself, he cannot stand; his end has come.
No one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his house.27Indeed, no one can enter a strong man’s house to steal his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder his house.
“Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter;28Truly I tell you, the sons of men will be forgiven all sins and blasphemies, as many as they utter.
but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation” —29But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of eternal sin.”
because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”30Jesus made this statement because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”
Then His brothers and His mother came, and standing outside they sent to Him, calling Him.31Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came and stood outside. They sent someone in to summon Him,
And a multitude was sitting around Him; and they said to Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are outside seeking You.”32and a crowd was sitting around Him. “Look,” He was told, “Your mother and brothers are outside, asking for You.”
But He answered them, saying, “Who is My mother, or My brothers?”33But Jesus replied, “Who are My mother and My brothers?”
And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!34Looking at those seated in a circle around Him, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!
For whoever does the will of God is My brother and My sister and mother.”35For whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother.”
