A Psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God the LORD, Has spoken and called the earth From the rising of the sun to its going down. | 1The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks; he summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. |
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth. | 2From Zion, the perfection of beauty, God appears in radiance. |
Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; A fire shall devour before Him, And it shall be very tempestuous all around Him. | 3Our God is coming; he will not be silent! Devouring fire precedes him, and a storm rages around him. |
He shall call to the heavens from above, And to the earth, that He may judge His people: | 4On high, he summons heaven and earth in order to judge his people: |
“Gather My saints together to Me, Those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.” | 5"Gather my faithful ones to me, those who made a covenant with me by sacrifice." |
Let the heavens declare His righteousness, For God Himself is Judge. Selah | 6The heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God is the Judge. Selah |
“Hear, O My people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you; I am God, your God! | 7"Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel. I am God, your God. |
I will not rebuke you for your sacrifices Or your burnt offerings, Which are continually before Me. | 8I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices or for your burnt offerings, which are continually before me. |
I will not take a bull from your house, Nor goats out of your folds. | 9I will not take a bull from your household or male goats from your pens, |
For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills. | 10for every animal of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. |
I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field are Mine. | 11I know every bird of the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine. |
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness. | 12If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and everything in it is mine. |
Will I eat the flesh of bulls, Or drink the blood of goats? | 13Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? |
Offer to God thanksgiving, And pay your vows to the Most High. | 14Sacrifice a thank offering to God, and pay your vows to the Most High. |
Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” | 15Call on me in a day of trouble; I will rescue you, and you will honor me." |
But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to declare My statutes, Or take My covenant in your mouth, | 16But God says to the wicked: "What right do you have to recite my statutes and to take my covenant on your lips? |
Seeing you hate instruction And cast My words behind you? | 17You hate instruction and fling my words behind you. |
When you saw a thief, you consented with him, And have been a partaker with adulterers. | 18When you see a thief, you make friends with him, and you associate with adulterers. |
You give your mouth to evil, And your tongue frames deceit. | 19You unleash your mouth for evil and harness your tongue for deceit. |
You sit and speak against your brother; You slander your own mother’s son. | 20You sit, maligning your brother, slandering your mother's son. |
These things you have done, and I kept silent; You thought that I was altogether like you; But I will rebuke you, And set them in order before your eyes. | 21You have done these things, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you. But I will rebuke you and lay out the case before you. |
“Now consider this, you who forget God, Lest I tear you in pieces, And there be none to deliver: | 22"Understand this, you who forget God, or I will tear you apart, and there will be no one to rescue you. |
Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; And to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God.” | 23Whoever sacrifices a thank offering honors me, and whoever orders his conduct, I will show him the salvation of God." |
