To the Chief Musician. On stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song. In Judah God is known; His name is great in Israel. | 1God is known in Judah; his name is great in Israel. |
In Salem also is His tabernacle, And His dwelling place in Zion. | 2His tent is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. |
There He broke the arrows of the bow, The shield and sword of battle. Selah | 3There he shatters the bow's flaming arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah |
You are more glorious and excellent Than the mountains of prey. | 4You are resplendent and majestic coming down from the mountains of prey. |
The stouthearted were plundered; They have sunk into their sleep; And none of the mighty men have found the use of their hands. | 5The brave-hearted have been plundered; they have slipped into their final sleep. None of the warriors was able to lift a hand. |
At Your rebuke, O God of Jacob, Both the chariot and horse were cast into a dead sleep. | 6At your rebuke, God of Jacob, both chariot and horse lay still. |
You, Yourself, are to be feared; And who may stand in Your presence When once You are angry? | 7And you--you are to be feared. When you are angry, who can stand before you? |
You caused judgment to be heard from heaven; The earth feared and was still, | 8From heaven you pronounced judgment. The earth feared and grew quiet |
When God arose to judgment, To deliver all the oppressed of the earth. Selah | 9when God rose up to judge and to save all the lowly of the earth. Selah |
Surely the wrath of man shall praise You; With the remainder of wrath You shall gird Yourself. | 10Even human wrath will praise you; you will clothe yourself with the wrath that remains. |
Make vows to the LORD your God, and pay them; Let all who are around Him bring presents to Him who ought to be feared. | 11Make and keep your vows to the LORD your God; let all who are around him bring tribute to the awe-inspiring one. |
He shall cut off the spirit of princes; He is awesome to the kings of the earth. | 12He humbles the spirit of leaders; he is feared by the kings of the earth. |
