They traveled into the desert for three days and did not find water. |
| 23Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah. | 23When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water at Marah because it was bitter. (That is why it's called Marah.) |

There the LORD presented to them a statute and an ordinance, and there he tested them. |
| 26and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.” | 26He said, "If you will carefully obey the LORD your God, do what he sees to be right, listen to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, then I won't inflict on you all the diseases that I inflicted on the Egyptians, because I am the LORD your healer." |
