Job 17
NKJV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
“My spirit is broken, My days are extinguished, The grave is ready for me.1"My spirit is broken, my days are extinguished, The grave is ready for me.
Are not mockers with me? And does not my eye dwell on their provocation?2"Surely mockers are with me, And my eye gazes on their provocation.
“Now put down a pledge for me with Yourself. Who is he who will shake hands with me?3"Lay down, now, a pledge for me with Yourself; Who is there that will be my guarantor?
For You have hidden their heart from understanding; Therefore You will not exalt them.4"For You have kept their heart from understanding, Therefore You will not exalt them.
He who speaks flattery to his friends, Even the eyes of his children will fail.5"He who informs against friends for a share of the spoil, The eyes of his children also will languish.
“But He has made me a byword of the people, And I have become one in whose face men spit.6"But He has made me a byword of the people, And I am one at whom men spit.
My eye has also grown dim because of sorrow, And all my members are like shadows.7"My eye has also grown dim because of grief, And all my members are as a shadow.
Upright men are astonished at this, And the innocent stirs himself up against the hypocrite.8"The upright will be appalled at this, And the innocent will stir up himself against the godless.
Yet the righteous will hold to his way, And he who has clean hands will be stronger and stronger.9"Nevertheless the righteous will hold to his way, And he who has clean hands will grow stronger and stronger.
“But please, come back again, all of you, For I shall not find one wise man among you.10"But come again all of you now, For I do not find a wise man among you.
My days are past, My purposes are broken off, Even the thoughts of my heart.11"My days are past, my plans are torn apart, Even the wishes of my heart.
They change the night into day; ‘The light is near,’ they say, in the face of darkness.12"They make night into day, saying, 'The light is near,' in the presence of darkness.
If I wait for the grave as my house, If I make my bed in the darkness,13"If I look for Sheol as my home, I make my bed in the darkness;
If I say to corruption, ‘You are my father,’ And to the worm, ‘You are my mother and my sister,’14If I call to the pit, 'You are my father'; To the worm, 'my mother and my sister';
Where then is my hope? As for my hope, who can see it?15Where now is my hope? And who regards my hope?
Will they go down to the gates of Sheol? Shall we have rest together in the dust?”16"Will it go down with me to Sheol? Shall we together go down into the dust?"
