Psalm 140
NKJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionNew Living Translation
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O LORD, from evil men; Preserve me from violent men,1O LORD, rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent,
Who plan evil things in their hearts; They continually gather together for war.2those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long.
They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; The poison of asps is under their lips. Selah3Their tongues sting like a snake; the venom of a viper drips from their lips. Interlude
Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; Preserve me from violent men, Who have purposed to make my steps stumble.4O LORD, keep me out of the hands of the wicked. Protect me from those who are violent, for they are plotting against me.
The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set traps for me. Selah5The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way. Interlude
I said to the LORD: “You are my God; Hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.6I said to the LORD, “You are my God!” Listen, O LORD, to my cries for mercy!
O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle.7O Sovereign LORD, the strong one who rescued me, you protected me on the day of battle.
Do not grant, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; Do not further his wicked scheme, Lest they be exalted. Selah8LORD, do not let evil people have their way. Do not let their evil schemes succeed, or they will become proud. Interlude
As for the head of those who surround me, Let the evil of their lips cover them;9Let my enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned for me.
Let burning coals fall upon them; Let them be cast into the fire, Into deep pits, that they rise not up again.10Let burning coals fall down on their heads. Let them be thrown into the fire or into watery pits from which they can’t escape.
Let not a slanderer be established in the earth; Let evil hunt the violent man to overthrow him.11Don’t let liars prosper here in our land. Cause great disasters to fall on the violent.
I know that the LORD will maintain The cause of the afflicted, And justice for the poor.12But I know the LORD will help those they persecute; he will give justice to the poor.
Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; The upright shall dwell in Your presence.13Surely righteous people are praising your name; the godly will live in your presence.
