Psalm 144
New King James VersionNew Living Translation
A Psalm of David. Blessed be the LORD my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle—1Praise the LORD, who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle.
My lovingkindness and my fortress, My high tower and my deliverer, My shield and the One in whom I take refuge, Who subdues my people under me.2He is my loving ally and my fortress, my tower of safety, my rescuer. He is my shield, and I take refuge in him. He makes the nations submit to me.
LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him?3O LORD, what are human beings that you should notice them, mere mortals that you should think about them?
Man is like a breath; His days are like a passing shadow.4For they are like a breath of air; their days are like a passing shadow.
Bow down Your heavens, O LORD, and come down; Touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.5Open the heavens, LORD, and come down. Touch the mountains so they billow smoke.
Flash forth lightning and scatter them; Shoot out Your arrows and destroy them.6Hurl your lightning bolts and scatter your enemies! Shoot your arrows and confuse them!
Stretch out Your hand from above; Rescue me and deliver me out of great waters, From the hand of foreigners,7Reach down from heaven and rescue me; rescue me from deep waters, from the power of my enemies.
Whose mouth speaks lying words, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.8Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie instead.
I will sing a new song to You, O God; On a harp of ten strings I will sing praises to You,9I will sing a new song to you, O God! I will sing your praises with a ten-stringed harp.
The One who gives salvation to kings, Who delivers David His servant From the deadly sword.10For you grant victory to kings! You rescued your servant David from the fatal sword.
Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners, Whose mouth speaks lying words, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood—11Save me! Rescue me from the power of my enemies. Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie instead.
That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; That our daughters may be as pillars, Sculptured in palace style;12May our sons flourish in their youth like well-nurtured plants. May our daughters be like graceful pillars, carved to beautify a palace.
That our barns may be full, Supplying all kinds of produce; That our sheep may bring forth thousands And ten thousands in our fields;13May our barns be filled with crops of every kind. May the flocks in our fields multiply by the thousands, even tens of thousands,
That our oxen may be well laden; That there be no breaking in or going out; That there be no outcry in our streets.14and may our oxen be loaded down with produce. May there be no enemy breaking through our walls, no going into captivity, no cries of alarm in our town squares.
Happy are the people who are in such a state; Happy are the people whose God is the LORD!15Yes, joyful are those who live like this! Joyful indeed are those whose God is the LORD.
