New Living Translation | International Standard Version |
LORD, remember David and all that he suffered. | 1LORD, remember in David's favor all of his troubles; |
He made a solemn promise to the LORD. He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel, | 2how he swore an oath to the LORD, vowing to the Mighty One of Jacob, |
“I will not go home; I will not let myself rest. | 3"I will not enter my house, or lie down on my bed, |
I will not let my eyes sleep nor close my eyelids in slumber | 4or let myself go to sleep or even take a nap, |
until I find a place to build a house for the LORD, a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel.” | 5until I locate a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob." |
We heard that the Ark was in Ephrathah; then we found it in the distant countryside of Jaar. | 6We heard about it in Ephrata; we found it in the fields of Jaar. |
Let us go to the sanctuary of the LORD; let us worship at the footstool of his throne. | 7Let's go to his dwelling place and worship at his footstool. |
Arise, O LORD, and enter your resting place, along with the Ark, the symbol of your power. | 8Arise, LORD, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your strength. |
May your priests be clothed in godliness; may your loyal servants sing for joy. | 9May your priests be clothed with righteousness and may your godly ones shout for joy. |
For the sake of your servant David, do not reject the king you have anointed. | 10For the sake of your servant David, don't turn away the face of your anointed one. |
The LORD swore an oath to David with a promise he will never take back: “I will place one of your descendants on your throne. | 11The LORD made an oath to David from which he will not retreat: "One of your sons I will set in place on your throne. |
If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and the laws that I teach them, then your royal line will continue forever and ever.” | 12If your sons keep my covenant and my statutes that I will teach them, then their sons will also sit on your throne forever." |
For the LORD has chosen Jerusalem ; he has desired it for his home. | 13For the LORD has chosen Zion, desiring it as his dwelling place. |
“This is my resting place forever,” he said. “I will live here, for this is the home I desired. | 14"This is my resting place forever. Here I will live, because I desire to do so. |
I will bless this city and make it prosperous; I will satisfy its poor with food. | 15I will bless its provisions abundantly; I will satiate its poor with food. |
I will clothe its priests with godliness; its faithful servants will sing for joy. | 16I will clothe its priests with salvation and its godly ones will shout for joy. |
Here I will increase the power of David; my anointed one will be a light for my people. | 17There I will create a power base for David— I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one. |
I will clothe his enemies with shame, but he will be a glorious king.” | 18I will clothe his enemies with disgrace, but on him his crown will shine." |
