New Living Translation | NET Bible |
LORD, remember David and all that he suffered. | 1A song of ascents. O LORD, for David's sake remember all his strenuous effort, |
He made a solemn promise to the LORD. He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel, | 2and how he made a vow to the LORD, and swore an oath to the powerful ruler of Jacob. |
“I will not go home; I will not let myself rest. | 3He said, "I will not enter my own home, or get into my bed. |
I will not let my eyes sleep nor close my eyelids in slumber | 4I will not allow my eyes to sleep, or my eyelids to slumber, |
until I find a place to build a house for the LORD, a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel.” | 5until I find a place for the LORD, a fine dwelling place for the powerful ruler of Jacob." |
We heard that the Ark was in Ephrathah; then we found it in the distant countryside of Jaar. | 6Look, we heard about it in Ephrathah, we found it in the territory of Jaar. |
Let us go to the sanctuary of the LORD; let us worship at the footstool of his throne. | 7Let us go to his dwelling place! Let us worship before his footstool! |
Arise, O LORD, and enter your resting place, along with the Ark, the symbol of your power. | 8Ascend, O LORD, to your resting place, you and the ark of your strength! |
May your priests be clothed in godliness; may your loyal servants sing for joy. | 9May your priests be clothed with integrity! May your loyal followers shout for joy! |
For the sake of your servant David, do not reject the king you have anointed. | 10For the sake of David, your servant, do not reject your chosen king! |
The LORD swore an oath to David with a promise he will never take back: “I will place one of your descendants on your throne. | 11The LORD made a reliable promise to David; he will not go back on his word. He said, "I will place one of your descendants on your throne. |
If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and the laws that I teach them, then your royal line will continue forever and ever.” | 12If your sons keep my covenant and the rules I teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever." |
For the LORD has chosen Jerusalem ; he has desired it for his home. | 13Certainly the LORD has chosen Zion; he decided to make it his home. |
“This is my resting place forever,” he said. “I will live here, for this is the home I desired. | 14He said, "This will be my resting place forever; I will live here, for I have chosen it. |
I will bless this city and make it prosperous; I will satisfy its poor with food. | 15I will abundantly supply what she needs; I will give her poor all the food they need. |
I will clothe its priests with godliness; its faithful servants will sing for joy. | 16I will protect her priests, and her godly people will shout exuberantly. |
Here I will increase the power of David; my anointed one will be a light for my people. | 17There I will make David strong; I have determined that my chosen king's dynasty will continue. |
I will clothe his enemies with shame, but he will be a glorious king.” | 18I will humiliate his enemies, and his crown will shine. |
